Our Philosophy

There are many reasons why people take Taekwondo, and at Tae Ryong, we embrace them all. Many parents choose us because they value the discipline, focus, and respect we teach children. Adults join to achieve their personal fitness goals and learn essential self-defense skills. Some come out of curiosity and stay for the strong community we provide.

We believe that Taekwondo is more than martial arts - it's a pathway to personal growth. Our training develops valuable life skills: cooperation, respect, self-control, focus, and confidence. These positive character traits help our students excel at work and school, at home and on the playing field.

Happier, more confident students create stronger families, which build more cohesive communities. That's why we continually seek opportunities to give back through self-defense seminars, charity fundraisers, and educational demonstrations. At Tae Ryong, we don't just teach Taekwondo - we build character and community.

About Taekwondo

Taekwondo (also spelled tae kwon do, taekwon-do, or more exactly taegwondo) is a martial art of Korean origin. It is based on the utilization of the hands and feet to attack or defend from an adversary, although some techniques use fingertips, elbows, or knees to strike the opponent. Taekwondo is a national sport in South Korea, and kyeorugi is a sport event in the Olympic Games.

In the Korean alphabet hangeul, 태 (跆) signifies "to strike with the foot"; 권 (拳) means "to strike with the hand"; and 도 (道) signifies "way", "road" or "route". Taekwondo can therefore be translated as "way of the foot and of the fist".

At Tae Ryong, our instructors carry forward this ancient tradition while adapting it for modern life, teaching not just techniques but the deeper philosophy and values that make Taekwondo a complete martial art.
